The new weekly domain sales report is out at DNJournal.com. We saw a 2-letter .com change hands for $500,000 in one of the year’s 10 biggest sales as well as a country code deal that ranks as the year's 6th biggest ccTLD sale, GeoDomains also had a strong presence on the Top 20 chart.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the DNJ list. Starting to really lean towards trying to acquire some geo domains...
Nice sales for sure. Last edited by Fka200 : 17th September 2008 at 10:08:54. |

According to Wikipedia at the time when I acquired this domain, the population of this city grew from 450k to 614k in one year. It is expected to keep growing quickly in 2009.
This place has been continuously inhabited for more than 4000 years? !!! .

Geos are the best form of investments in a slump environment. There has been under the radar acquisition of Chinese, Japanese, and Russian cities going on since 2005. When i first started IDNing in 2005 Dec, the first thing i did was to email the owner of all the top 20 cities in China. I managed to get some from Dave (the other didn't even bothered to reply) but i also found out that the owner of NYC.com was a few months ahead of me, otherwise i would have gotten a few more names. My budget then was $2000 to $5000 a chinese city, looks cheapo, but crazy sum during those days. To me, top geos are basically trophies, they are not dependent on PPC, and i even dare say not dependent on whether IDNs take off, they are valuable by virtue of their rarity. There is no lack of wealthy people that go after trophies and the 100 million pounds Damien Hirst earned by selling a few preserved carcasses of animals just proves this fact - http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5...gAhicwBgtn21LQ If the recession turns into a depression, the entire IDN market for commercial names will slow to a trickle as they derive their value from their commercial viability, but the value of geos will still hold up.

Depression?
People still need to buy food, find jobs and shelter. Gambling will increase as well as booze consumption including a "rise" in the sex industry. More stores will close down and move online, looking to save on overhead. People will stay home so not to spend money on gas, so they will spend more time on the net. It's all good |

depression scenario is a hypothetical example. i think it is more likely inflation.
