Hi all,
Just looking for some general pointers on making an offer from Whois contacts, which I've never done. I'm looking at buying one of two names, one has hidden contact info, the other doesn't. Both are parked. The one with open whois info has a stated price on the name, more than I'm willing to pay (by about 40%). The one with identity shield has no stated price on the parked page, and is probably a better name. I'd be happy with either. How would you proceed? |

Don't screw around. Tell them you are ready to buy right now, how much you are willing to pay, and that the offer is non-negotiable. Do not answer questions such as "why do you want this domain?" or "what are you going to do with this domain?". Just state your price and that's it. -- Hello, I am interested in purchasing your domain "foobar.com". I will pay you $5,000 USD via escrow.com, transaction initiated today, if you are willing to sell. This offer is non-negotiable, you either take it or leave it. This offer is valid for 24 hours. Thank you, Mike -- .

That is what I call screwing around. If they seriously wanted that domain, they probably just lost their chances of ever getting it for a reasonable price. If I make an offer, I figure out in advance the price I am willing to pay and that's it. Take it or leave it. Screw negotiations, I don't have time for that sort of game. Same goes for if I list something for sale. The listed price is the price that I really mean, and I am not selling it for less unless I specifically state that I am also accepting lower offers. .
