As in would natives prefer or Санкт-Петербург.com or СанктПетербург.com?

I prefer hyphenated in long names, not only IDN but ASCII too. You will write санктпетербург.com not СанктПетербург.com in address bar, so first looks a little hard-to-read as for me.

Thanks. I remembered doing some research in this area in late 2005, the Russians didn't even register the non-hyphenated versions of their cities at that time.

1). Sankt-Peterburg.ru (created: 1999.04.26)
vs
SanktPeterburg.ru (created: 2007.11.22)


2). Nizhny-Novgorod.ru (created: 2005.08.24)
vs
NizhnyNovgorod.ru (created: 2008.01.10)


3). Rostov-na-Donu.ru (created: 2000.05.29)
vs
RostovnaDonu.ru (created: 2005.07.27)


My conclusion is that the hyphenated version is at least equal to the non-hypenated version.

Wrong data. SanktPeterburg.ru can not be registered so late. Try this http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://SanktPeterburg.ru .

I agree with you on the type-in flow over.

But the flow over effect can also work both ways.

A buyer paying $100,000 for say SanktPeterburg.ru will want to have the "official version" - Sankt-Peterburg.ru.

So i think the hyphenated and non-hyphenated versions is at least equal in value.

But even if not equal, let's say 50%, $50,000 is still good money.
