Visit DNF and DS you will see everyone moaning about the recession, and calculating their losses (up to 90% for dot mobi and dot info as compared to just over a year ago), and what they don't realize is that it is still possible even for newbies to make money from idns with some patience, diversification, and good knowledge.
The ascii market is officially dead, at least for the foreseeable future, other than names like date.me, and maybe even f***.me, For idns, at the least, we're seeing new money from natives, and now even end users as ie7 browser take up improves. So not much changed in the last couple of years then?
We were all waiting action from the brain dead then, there are no more vital signs now. I guess the real change is that the local markets are waking. What happens in the US is largely irrelevant to us. |

We've done well the last few years despite the stalemate on the browser front, which i've already anticipated in 2006s, that it will take at least 5 years for browsers to work with IDNs - 2 years has passed.
I'm a domain newbie, was into domaining for only 2 mths flipping asciis before bailing out and going full time (domaining) into IDNs. I did it almost immediately after i discovered Olney's forum. I knew it right from the start that IDNs were a better bet. On retrospect, had i continued with ASCII, i think it will be a complete waste of time and a disaster. By buying into the top of the ASCII market, the likelihood of making good money is low, and lots of time will be wasted. I'm sure many at DNF are already in disaster, particular newbie Moby and LLLL flippers, stuck with rapidly devaluing domains with no chance of future appreciation. Domainers that really made money in ASCII went in 2004 and before. The game was almost over by 2005 and definitely over by 2006. Last edited by touchring : 29th September 2008 at 12:41:14. |

The guys are DNF are relatively shrude. Most of the total losers have gravitated to Namepros, and been joined by swarms of utter no hopers, but even these guys have probably done better than those that have been hot-housed at TargetedTraffic.

I think strong keywords and business type words will only temporarily lose value...same with GEOs. Many have made poor choices in the ascii realm, but for those who made good choices, I don't see complete failure. In fact, I think good solid ascii terms will rebound in the future.
As far as IDNs, they will continue to rise in value probably for the next 5 - 7 years before any slow down occurs, and each language's rise will begin at different times -- so the 5 years of IDN growth could turn into 20 years, depending on how diversified your portfolio is. Regarding PPC: I'm surprised it is down right now, considering that traditional forms of media are losing interest (paper products) Perhaps the major players in advertising haven't shifted over yet. |

The problem is that google and maybe also parking providers have jacked up the size of their slice in order to pad themselves for the effects of the financial meltdown. .

Yep, I'm getting loads of .02 clicks....some of these are on keywords that were in the .85 range a year ago. There is no transparency.

Some here haven't been able to grasp this ( or can't seem to come to terms with it). As for the ascii market, if you sell when the general economy is on a nosedive, more often than not, the immediate value gained will be lower than if you sold a year ago or a couple of years ahead. |
