I assume that the responses they will have received will have been a country requesting an IDN ccTLD for their own county in their own Script/Language. eg 中国 (China)

A much more internationalized and innovative approach would be to ALSO have IDN ccTLDs for a country in other languages/Scripts eg China in japanese, korean, Russian ....etc....

I will illustrate using simplified Chinese and America. America already has US as a ccTLD but it could also have 美国 (simplified chinese for America) as an IDN ccTLD. Similarly for other world languages. I think that having multi language/script IDN ccTLDs for a country makes good sense and is the route to true Internationalization of Domain names and internet addressing.

I have just emailed the UK registry with this suggestion ie IDN ccTLDs for Britain in world languages. (英国 is one of the chinese translations for Britain) I wonder if I will get a reply ?

Nothing new here and indeed Nominet have already said they are going to do this.

However, if you have read the Fast Track information it is specifically excluded so timescale for delivery is 2y+.

I think there will be limitations on GB getting a simplified chinese cctld. ICANN has set limits for the time being to allow only the official languages within a country to be selected, as far as I can tell from reading the latest ICANN notes. This of course may change in the future.

That is in the Fasttrack. There are no limits on the wider process.

I am intrigued by your comment about Nominet. What plans do Nominet have to implement IDN ccTLDs for .uk ?

I did get a response to my email to them and the response implies that they currently have no plans to implement IDN ccTLDs for .uk. In fact the email implies that they are not even considering it at the moment.
