Yes .china doesn't exist, but 中国 is "china", not "cn". This is the irony. .中国 doesn't translate into .cn at all.

While we think of ccTLD as .cn equivalent in Chinese, the Chinese think of it as .China. Actually .中国 is indeed .China. This is what makes .cn ccTLD inferior.

A full word for an extension is just outright weird. How about if start using .unitedkingdom instead of .uk? So we'll have Yahoo.company.unitedkingdom instead of Yahoo.co.uk. lol

You need a Chinese Input Method to type 中国. With OSX go to System Prefs/International/Input Menu and check the Simplified Chinese Input Method. Then type zhongguo and hit space bar.
