If so, then that might explain some of the prices that these IDN.su domains went for ... ( providing these were real prices of course !! )

That's why I stayed away from this extention.

Anyway there is a news from nic.ru about biggest auction sale on $18k at May 13

I think it might be real - there's a political connotation in .su. With wealth comes thoughts of hegemony and restoration of the soviet union.

Maybe a billionaire or multimillionaire russian wants to throw in some money in .su names?
