Is it just me or do Japanese sites (parked or minisites) have infamously low CTR compared to other languages?
I have latin domains that get 30-50% ctr, but most of my japanese will get 1-3% ctr. I've always wondered wtf the problem is with regard to Japanese people clicking (or lack thereof). Any thoughts? .

I hardly get any legitimate Japanese traffic. I just looked at one year stats, and the CTR for Japanese is bad (9%). My Georgian, Hebrew, Korean, Chinese, Bengali, Tamil, Hindi, and single character IDNs are also all below 10%.
![]() French, Spanish, Polish, Arabic, Swedish, German, Portuguese, Greek, Cyrillic, Thai, etc. are all better. Polish (44%), Arabic (34%), and Swedish (30%) leading the pack. The rest are not far behind. My English ASCIIs do better than most IDN, but I think the numbers are respectable. The problem is speculators and bots! ![]() |

Since Jan 1, 2008 my CTR for Japanese domains have been .JP 11% .COM/.NET 9% and .TV 15%. This is on par with my ascii domains at 12% and my thai domains are superior with 24%.
Basically 10% is what I expect. So I guess performance is relative to expectations. My best traffic domains are all optimized though. |
